Memetic Residue

Wednesday we talked about the current state of Neuroscience
and its comparison with Philosophy.
From this what can be said about the Psychological
and Sociological
state of humans based on current Biology.

First of all when stimulus reaches the brain several
neural spike strings will travel the Cerebrum.
The neurons traveled through will be of a variety of
charges, alignments and orientations (of course no
neuron can have a duplicated orientation as no two
humans can have the same exact point-of-view). As the
spike string develops it will shift and diminish or
strengthen. The future of the spike string is
dependent on the path that is taken, but let us focus
on a sucessful one that makes its way to the cerebral
cortex.

Let's take a situation most of us experience, looking
into a mirror. Rays of visible light are reflected
into our eyes down the optical stalk and into the
cerebrum. Neural spike strings are generated and vie
for acceptance to be the decision that the organism
takes.

How do you react?

I like this question because its something that a
majority of people experience and yet it is something
we often do in private and thus develop an
individualized response.

Well sort of.

Our individual neurons that play host to the spike
train for a fraction of a second have been shaped,
charged and oriented based on past experiences. The
past stimulus and decisions made now effect where and
to what result the current thought of how to react to
your reflection is determined. A given neuron may
have been charged based on putting on shoes, going to
school, your national anthem, all unrelated to
evaluating your reflection but they may effect it.

In the Electric Meme Robert Augner talks about
how this causes Memes to spread in seemingly unrelated thoughts.
So current biology is pointing to a theory that
previous decisions may effect current ones no matter
the source stimulus, and may be significantly
different.

So if the number thirteen makes you think of velvet or
moist green moss is conjured when your lips go numb
your experiencing some random memetic deposit.
