We’ve heard the criticism, the studies and symposium. Democracy is a lie. Big business directs policy like pieces on a chess board. What is left is fought over in some bizarre legislative sandbox by special interests. My reply, don’t worry, Democracy doesn’t matter. We live in a highly efficient society, where resource allocation has reached a level of refinement the world has never dreamt, never mind seen. Faster is better, and until co-localization is refined, multitasking fills our hours. In this environment free time is used for exercise and other biological maintenance, which in an earlier age, was part of other functions and not recognized independently. Democracy is a waste. Done correctly, it takes time and attention. Policies have to be studied, candidates scrutinized. For the entire adult population to bother with these efforts would result in a huge loss in productivity. Efficiency requires specialization. Its a staple of Ford’s assembly line which has been applied to every sector of society, even politics. It only makes sense that those that are best able to reduce their costs, invest the largest initial amount, and who have the assets to do the job, should be developing policy. We have giant bureaucracies running the varies bureau’s and departments. Each of these develops administrative rules, where the legislature has given them providence, usually with details that would be both to sensitive and time consuming to legislate, as well as best handled by experts. Let’s take a queue from our elected officials and have people who are trained to make the decisions make them for us. ![]() |
